Movie Review: Mary Poppins Returns

Just watched Mary Poppins returns, the sequel to the well-beloved children's movie Mary Poppins.
Now before I start the review, I will assure you that I have not included any spoilers from the movie, because I want everyone to enjoy this movie as much as possible.

I really loved the old-school 2D Disney animations. Part of what I loved in the original, was the mixture of live action with the animations, remember Bert's dance with the Penguins in the original movie? Loved that!! Well this movie offers a lot more of that and you can see that the animation technology has come a long long way since then. It makes the whole thing all the more exciting and magical. London looks so lo lovely in this movie as well! (😉)

Emily Blunt's performance as Mary Poppins was so fresh and original. She brought her own flair to this role and it was so perfectly balanced. My favourite thing was that she was fully able to convey the love she feels for the family, and her sassiness.

Overall, Lin-Manuel Miranda absolutely killed it! He brings so much warmth and life to his character. I loved Lin-Manuel Miranda's accent, it was relatively more subtle's than Dick Van Dyke's rendition, but still fun. Also, I might not be the best person to judge accents, so to me they both sound great!

Also the minute, Dick Van Dyke popped up on the screen as Mr. Dawes Sr, I was overcome with such joy. It really was endearing to see him again and his role brought so much energy and nostalgia to this movie. (Fun Fact: Apparently he paid Walt Disney $4000 to play Mr.Dawes Sr. Hopefully, that wasn't the case this time!)

Loved the song "The Place Where Lost Things go". The lyrics are so touching and up-lifting. I mean this is a children's movie, so the song does fit in perfectly. Having such an outlook on tragedy, would make it easier for a child. But as adults, some of us might need an emotional crutch from time to time. Maybe viewing the world through the lens of this movie, might help us live a little better? ^_^

Anyway, I would recommend everyone to watch this movie. Don't feel embarrassed about being an adult and watching a children's movie, guys. If you're worried about kids judging you, just go to a showtime late at night. Or just pretend that you forgot your pretend-child back at home! (Wouldn't recommend the latter though....)

Here's the full Spotify Playlist for the Album! Enjoy!!
